Freeflite was a hard-working rock band that emerged from Rapid City, South Dakota in the 1970s. The band’s journey began in junior high when Peter, Don and Roger started playing music together. In high school they welcomed Larry as lead vocalist. Soon Freeflite was performing at school dances, clubs and concerts around the Midwest.
Freeflite began by playing covers of popular songs by renowned bands like Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and David Bowie, and soon captured the attention of booking agents and concert promoters. Before long, they were opening regional shows for major touring acts including Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foghat, The Guess Who, Jo Jo Gunn, Head East, Black Oak Arkansas, Flash and Deodato, at concerts, colleges and festivals.
Over the span of their six years together, Freeflite moved from being a cover band to performing original music, composed by Peter. They had a passion for theatrical, heavy and progressive rock, and their live performances had a hard-hitting and relentless style. The group’s undivided dedication allowed for many complex and unique arrangements, heard in live performances on stage and on demo recordings.
